Costume Sale/Fund Raiser

Some of you may know this and some of you may not. A little over 2 years ago, I befriended Bernice, she owned House of Make Believe in Clearwater. It was a costume shop that had been a community staple for over 40 years. She closed her costume shop, sold a lot of her inventory and moved the rest into storage and her house. I purchased the large lot of fabric she had accumulated for costumes and used that to start my fabric shop. Its because of her I actually had the fabrics to initially stock my store.

She saw that we bought a building and that we are trying to boost sales to help us with the building repairs and she had a lightbulb moment. She is finally ready to part with the rest of her collection. The costumes that she had held onto that were her favorites.

She pitched this to me: Sell her costumes in time for Halloween as a pop up and take 60% to help with the building repairs. So that is exactly what we are planning to do. She has so many costumes and some really good ones too. So here is the deal. For 5 consecutive Sundays, we are going to pop up over at the new property and sell her costumes. Why 5 Sundays? Because we cannot get it in one trip and can’t manage that much stuff. Each week we will bring another load out to sell, hopefully moving enough inventory to help her begin the next chapter of her life, while helping us with the next chapter of ours.

Beginning Sunday, September 27th, we will begin our pop up costume fund raising sale. Each Sunday through the end of October from 10-2, you can come check out our new property and support both Sew Pinellas and House of Make Believe. We will even have some exclusive sewing stuff too. And make sure you stop by each week, as there will be new stuff each week.

Our pop up sale may be outside, unless all mold remediation is complete, then we may just spread out inside. You will be able to see first hand what we are starting with and where we are going with this big project. If you are not local and/or want a private showing of the collection before the sale, definitely reach out. I will only have the following week’s items from about Tuesday each week.

Besides being just amazing costumes, there is genuine vintage in there. Some repairs may be needed. Once we are in our new space, we will be running repair workshops as well as continue our alterations classes with additional levels of instruction.

More info coming soon, but save the dates!
